Devin's Mission Call!

Well..the day has FINALLY arrived! Who knew that it took SOOOOO long to put your mission papers in??!! Devin picked up his papers the Sunday after he was ordained to be an elder....and it took 2 weeks to get into the dr's office for a checkup, and then another week for the TB test to be read and the dr to sign the papers. It's quite a bit of effort to fill out your life story (pretty much....lol) We thought they'd never be turned in. He turned them in , and then we found out that the brethren take July off for the most part....so that it might be awhile. He anxiously awaited the day they'd be in the mailbox!

On July 29th, Devin called the stake executive secretary to see if they had been mailed back yet. He told us that they had been accepted by church headquarters, but that the call would be issued the following Wed, mailed Thurs and we'd get it by Aug 11th. More waiting!

One of the counselors in our stake presidency is in our ward and he called Garrin on Friday the 30th and told him that they had been mailed out and would be here on Tues or Wed!!! I guess there are only 2 status' on the site for the stake presidency--in process or mailed. When the secretary checked...they were still in process so we assumed it would be another week. Shortly after he checked, the status must have changed to mailed. We were excited!! We decided NOT to tell Devin---just let him be surprised when they came a week earlier than he expected.

So....here we are....Wed....3:00......I get a phone call from Devin while I'm at work. Thinking he picked up the mail and had his mission call----I quickly answered it. No...instead he told me that the basement was flooded and to get home as quick as I could. I guess we had a horrific rain storm and it filled up the window wells. Devin stood up off his couch in his bedroom to leave for work and stepped into squishy carpet. He hadn't even heard it coming into his room. By the time I got home, they had already gutted his room and were working on Shawnee's. On the way I stopped at our mailbox and his papers were here!!! I drove up yelling they are HERE, they're here! Devin is in the driveway and says "what is here?" I showed him the envelope and he was SOOO surprised!

The chaos continued...my neighbor was here with her shop vac, and Garrin had come home to help, and then went to get a more powerful carpet extractor. Devin quickly called his girlfriend Kiera to see if she could come over, and I called my parents and siblings. We had to wait until 7pm to open it as Shawnee was at work. I'm not sure if I can say that all the water flooding was a good distraction while we waited or not! We pulled about 20 gallons of water out of Devin's carpets. Shawnee's ended up being a lot better, only reaching half of her room and extracted about 7 gallons out of her room.

The family started arriving about 10 minutes to 7 and we could hardly contain our excitement. I was SOOO nervous! Devin started thinking how bad it would be to go to Idaho (too much family to call it your mission)---and then I started worrying too! We didn't have to wait long....the family all arrived by about 7:10 and it was opened!

SEATTLE, WASHINGTON!!!! Devin admitted that he scanned the page first so he could see it before reading it to us! He was suppose to put a paper there and read it line by line...what a turkey! He leaves Oct 13th and we are so excited for him!

I got teary when I watched the video! I am so excited for your entire family, especially Devin. I know Devin will be an exceptional missionary. Seattle is wonderful. I think you will have a hard time getting him to come back home when his mission is over!
