It's PUPPY time!

Well...it's official! We have a brand new puppy. His name is Koda and he is a 10 1/2 week Yorkshire Terrier. We have been talking about getting a dog for years, although not as serious as we have in the last 3-4 months. There are many reasons why we felt like the time was right. We've thought of the pros and cons and we've researched information on the internet to make sure we were prepared. We finally decided to just jump right in. We talked to the kids at a family night about the possibility and who would help with the work and the pooper scooper. They all agreed to help.

I found quite a few on the internet and decided to "check out" some in nearby Pleasant Grove. They were a good price, were crate trained, and looked cute as could be. We decided to just go look, but I told the kids ahead of time that there was NO way that we were going to get it before Devin's farewell in a few days, and that we were thinking about waiting until after he was gone on his mission as we had a lot to do to get ready. Well...Devin called me at lunch that day and asked WHY we had to wait until after his farewell. We talked about it for awhile, and we decided that we may be able to get him today...we would see. He was just as excited about it as the girls. I called and talked to Garrin and we decided that we would be ready to bring him home that night just in case. I had bought a crate from a co-worker a few days earlier, and Devin picked up a bed. We wanted to wait and see what kind of food he was used to, so we didn't get anything else.

We took the WHOLE family plus Kiera so that we could all give our opinion. We were leaning towards the male (he had a sister). We fell in love with him right away...how could we resist this cute face????

We spent about an hour or so at the breeder's house asking questions and playing with the puppies. Our puppy and his sister were from a stud service, so the breeder owned the dad. Here he is. His name was Remi----short for Remington. He is only about 4 lbs as well as the mom--who we didn't get to see. We definitely don't like the long hair on Yorkies...so we'll keep ours trimmed short.

Here is his sister...she had a little more black on her face.

The breeder also had 3 more yorkie puppies that weren't going to be ready to go to homes for another month, but we held them and played with them too. They were so tiny!

Devin, Kiera, Shawnee, Kaylee, Jaycee.

This new little puppy fit right in the palm of my hand.

After everyone fell in love with them and REALLY wanted them Kaylee said, "Mom can we JUST take him home tonight?" and I said "sure". She about fell over. They were all so excited...and we were now committed and unable to turn back.

Since it was so late at night, Koda was very sleepy and snuggled right up to Shawnee and Kaylee. (by the way---Koda was unnamed for a day and a half...it took forever for us all to agree on a name.) We considered Rascal, Twitch, and lots of others.

When we got out to the car with Koda, Kaylee ran and jumped onto me...she was so excited. I don't think any of the kids ever thought we would actually get a dog. Here goes an adventure!

All I can say is....welcome home Koda! Even though you cried most of the night and I had to lay on the couch with you ALL NIGHT...we are excited about this new adventure!
